Marketplace Insurance: Affordable Health Coverage for Individuals and Families
What Is Marketplace Insurance?
Marketplace insurance plans are offered through the federal or state-run health insurance exchange. These plans are designed to make health coverage accessible and affordable for people who don’t have employer-based insurance or qualify for Medicaid or Medicare.
Marketplace coverage includes essential health benefits like:
- Doctor visits and preventive care - Emergency services - Hospitalization - Prescription medications - Maternity and newborn care - Mental health services
Who is Eligible?
You may qualify for a Marketplace plan if you:
- Are a U.S. citizen or legal resident - Are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid - Don’t have access to affordable employer-sponsored insurance
Even if you’re already insured, you may find a more affordable or better-fitting plan through the Marketplace.
Can I get Financial Help?
Yes! Most people who apply through the Marketplace qualify for subsidies that lower their monthly premiums or out-of-pocket costs.
There are two types of financial help:
Premium Tax Credits – Reduce your monthly premium based on income and household size Cost-Sharing Reductions – Lower deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums (available with Silver plans only)

What Types of Plans Are Available?
Marketplace plans are categorized into four "metal tiers" based on how you and the plan share costs:
Each plan offers the same essential health benefits; the difference is in how costs are split. Lisa will walk you through the options and help you find the plan that fits your needs and budget.
